Part of the film was recorded at the Boen Estate in 2009. The film Yohan - a child migrant, was launched at the cinema on 26th March 2010 and at Stockholms Film Festival Junior 19th – 24th April 2010.
The film follows the 10 year old boy Yohan, who grows up on a farm in the countryside in Vest-Agder, at the end of the 1880’s. Yohans life is very hard, but even so, he always tries to make the best of a situation.
The story takes place in the Agder countryside, Arendal, Kristiansand and in New York. Each year at the beginning of April all the children from small farms in Konsmo, Kvås, Hægebostad and Kvinesdal went in a group to Konsmo church. There the children worked in the barns, making food, mowing grass, making repairs and tended the animals. Many of these children later emigrated to the USA when they were 15 or 16 years old.
The script and stage management of Yohan child migrant is by Salomonsen who is also known for her script and stage management of Kamilla og Tyven.
